WOYWW 257

A couple of things from last week's WOYWW

- sorry for misleading some of you last week. I didn't think about it until I started reading comments - the glamorous, dreadlocked lady wasn't me but Anne Lamott, whose great quote I'd put above the pic. Me? I'm more a cross between Judy Dench (hair) and Princess Fiona, for the rest of me (but not quite as green!)

I had to laugh - the new liberated me decided to take a selfie to show you, but my arms are too short!! All I could get was a view up my nose, undergirded by many more double chins than I'm sure I've got. How do people manage to get decent ones? Anyway, I'll wait til I'm feeling brave again, and someone sympathetic(like DD2) is around, to take one for me.

 - a few people asked what courgettes are, that I grow in the veg beds. You might be more familiar with their Italian name, zucchini.

A quiet week on the crafting front, because this weekend was a long Bank Holiday one, and Monday was DH's birthday. I had foolishly hoped to get all the crafting stuff from the loft with DD2, and put it all away neatly by now - HAHAHA!!! We stopped after retrieving most of the card making stash, which is almost tidied.

I just managed to find enough wherewithal to knock up a hasty card for DH. The combination of not having everything to hand, and a distinct lack of confidence (no card making for over a year now!) meant I'm not overjoyed with the result, but he was happy, so that's good.

The PC printer isn't working yet, so I had to resort to handwriting the inside. I searched for a suitable but not slushy message, and was happy with this one I found on Pinterest.

I've almost finished the little waistcoat (just the border and buttons to attach) so will put that here, next week.

Any crafting this week will hopefully happen in the garden. I'm currently waging a one-woman war against the entire slug & snail population of the UK, which have migrated to my garden.

Pop over to Auntie Julia, to see what else is happening in Blogland today, won't you?

Love for now, Chris xx

  3. I laughed at the story of you trying to take a selfie! I've never managed to get a decent one of myself either,,,all chins and nostrils ;-) And I adore Princess Fiona, Shrek is one of my all time favourite movies ever!
It doesn't matter if your card isn't perfect (I thought it was btw) the sentiment said it all. The recipients just like something made specially for them with love.
And I suggest a flame thrower for the invading beasts in the garden, then you can have BBQ'd Escargots for tea. Double whammy or what??
    Hugs, LLJ 2 xx

  4. I did a selfie once, Chris, using the delayed timer thingie on the camera - rushing in and hoping I was in shot! Much easier to get someone else to do it for you!

Love your card. I can't see anything wrong with that and I am sure he was delighted!

Thanks for your visit and your lovely comment. I got the tip of using the scrap paper from Jennibellie (Google her - she's amazing! I subscribe to her Youtube channel and blog). It's amazing how much ink and paint one wastes in the water pot. Distress Inks on the craft sheet get spritzed with water and smooshed up with card to make nice backgrounds for future projects. No two ever the same!

I'm hoping the housewarming card and pressie will go down OK!

    Happy WOYWW,

  5. I like your DH's card. And as for snails, I must have their 'across the pond' cousins residing in my yard! I would love to swap WOYWW ATCs with you! Send me your email addy and I'll send my 'snail' mail address to you. Have a wonderful day in the garden! Thanks for the earlier visit! Hugs and Happy WOYWW! Nan G #8

  6. LOL I haven't figured out that selfie thing either!, and always wonder how everyone else eliminates the over large nostrils and multiple chins.

I think the hand written sentiment is really more personal able, and often choose to do it that way.
Thanks for the visit this week

  11. Hi Christine. Well done you for making the card after all that time.
Thanks for visiting. What a "God incident" when I emailed Gaynor. Her immediate response was to help and not to leave me in my misery. Now all I have to do is achieve what she showed me....
Have a great week. God bless,

  15. Hi Chris, thanks for visiting me. I think it's really dificult to take a photo of yourself.
I do have one tip, hold the camera a little higher and look up at it.
Love the card and I am sure any male would love it too.
Gardening!!! The grass has been growing like mad and the slugs, well! and massive big caterpillars. Been digging up a patch to put he rest of my strawberry suckers in and disturbed the wildlife.

  19. I stopped by earlier, but my computer crashed. That's actually a gorgeous card, and the sentiment was heartfelt. And I'm too short to get a good selfie. Tried it once, never again (grin). Thanks for your visit and happy WOYWW from #5.

  24. Hello Chris. I haven't joined in this week but just popping by a few desks. I've tried selfies but always look too dreadful. My son did one of him and me at weekend which was not too bad. The tables in the link you gave me would have been perfect- just can't get the right size :-( Anne x

  27. Hi Chris,

Your husband's card looks great! I like the sentiment too - very well done. Your handwriting is great too!

Oh, how I love zucchini. We make a dish here called calabacitas. It's steamed zucchini, squash and corn. I also add green chili but you may not be able to find that.

    Thanks for visiting me already.

    Happy belated WOYWW

  28. Oh, and I wanted to say that yes, the baby blanket took forever! Especially since I had finished it - didn't like the dimensions (bad math) and ripped the entire thing out and started over! So happy it's done. Now I'm knitting a lap blanket for her sister as I've knitted two baby blankets for the one and nothing for the other. No fancy stitch and bigger needles. Hoping it will go quickly!

    Hugs,
    Kay

  29. Very nice card, and your writing is beautiful. Our printer is out at the moment, too, and it's getting a little tiresome . . .

But here's the question--will you give yourself dreadlocks before you take the selfie??? (I thought it was you, too, for a moment, but it dawned on me as I continued to read . . .)

Thank you for the visit, and happy woyww!

  30. Happy belated birthday! I'm sure Anne Lamott would adore being called elegant -- you'd make her day. It is very challenging getting selfies that one is pleased with. One key is to hold the phone/camera so it's facing slightly down on your face instead of from below (the cause of the dreaded multiple chins). I love the card you're working on for your husband. The vintage travel/map paper is cool, as are the Scrabble tiles. Happy WOYWW and thanks for visiting. ~ Laura #60

  31. Chris, Thanks for visiting me earlier, that card for your other half looks great and I like the scrabble letters and the verse.

  32. Great card. Selfies are an art form in themselves, they are the only photos of me I like because I can take millions and delete the bad ones (most of them)

  33. The card was great. Apparently the best way to get a good selfie is to lift your chin and a duck face (that's what my niece does!). Look forward to seeing the real Judi/Fiona sounds adorable

  36. I'm not sure its the length of the arms that make selfies so bad... but very glad it isn't just me that is not happy with the result! LOL Lovely card for your DH... which reminds me... better get on and make one my DH too! Annette #9

  37. 43. Gosh I am so sorry for being late this week everything has got in my way and I had so many projects to finish off that were well over due, I'm still not caught up either but had to do some checking on the blog and make sure I hadn't missed commenting on returns.

Love hubbies card as for the photo of you, selfies are hard we always criticize ourselves so much. I think we all need to let go and just be who we are. Belated birthday greeting too.

    Thanks for visiting.

  44. I'm not apologising for being late, because we all know what life is like! Thank you for visiting me, though, it was much appreciated. And creating the colour chart wasn't actually tedious at all.

However what I really want to say is that your handwriting is amazing and I wish mine was that lovely. Why would you ever use a printer?

    Cheers, Rachel.

  46. I'm late, almost time for the next woyww! Love the card for DH and agree with the others, your writing is beautiful and much better than a computer. Good luck getting back into the knitting, it's a bit like riding a bike once you get going again. And socks are really easy, they just look intimidating!
