WOYWW Jingle Bells All The Way

This week, crafting depends on who's in the room with me! I'm surrounded by felt holly at the mo, making a dozen brooches for girl friends, to put with a jar of home made, festive chutney.

So, these get shoved in a corner if a friend drops by

This prototype is not sewn together yet, and I think I'll just put two leaves per brooch - reckon this one looks a bit weird! Mind you, I know the button 'berry' is far too large, but it's too shiny and luscious not to use.

and this pile are waiting their trimmings

As soon as Mum goes for a sleep, out comes her hat and mittens set. This is yarn I'd used for DD1's Christmas socks, and the colour combo and softness are perfect for a 90 year old in the cold weather.

When DH is out, I work on his Christmas pressie, a pair of socks (no pic). I'm doing them on larger needles and thicker yarn than I'm using for these, for me. This is what comes out when everyone is around LOL! The humungous ball was given to me, and I originally thought of making a baby/toddler jumper, but decided the colour change (every couple of stitches) was too busy for a little person. However, I love it made up as adult socks.

The hexie quilt has gone on the back burner, as DD1 will be moving house in the new year so, rather than finishing it for her Christmas pressie, it will make a great 'new home' one.

I hope you're enjoying the run up to the festivities, and not feeling too stressed. Take a leaf out of Rosie's book - but don't be quite as chilled - she's fallen off the back of the sofa twice yesterday, she was so fast asleep!

I hope to catch up with you all over at Julia's today or tomorrow, for a virtual cuppa. If you don't know about WOYWW yet (where have you been?? LOL!!) just click on the button on my side bar, and be transported around the globe, for an amazing, weekly blogfest.

Hugs, blessings and have a great week. Chris xx

  4. WOW lots of stuff cooking around your house…interesting how you manage to keep them all hidden from the ones you are making them for. I am making the youngest granddaughter a scarf today…hopefully be able to make the oldest granddaughters tomorrow. We decided to make all Christmas gifts this year except for getting the babies some toy or something. Looking forward to seeing the finished projects. Have a great week. Vickie #17

  5. I am loving wearing my socks - close call the other day when I wasn't feeling great so DH moved some stuff over from washer to dryer for me. Luckily he is a bit clueless and it ran on a 30 minute cycle and was wet enough it was nowhere near dry at the end. Good darn thing as TWO pairs of my hand knit socks were in the load. They could have ended up felted to fit a barbie doll. Phew. :)

    Happy happy WOYWW!

  10. Two leaves, or maybe even three but not in a triangle, would be better for the ornament I think... LOVE IT!!! Love everything you are working in, I can almost 'see' you go from one project to the other! Sorry that I did not stop by last week... time just slipped through my hands. Did I make it up to you by commenting now? Hope so! Happy woyww and a hug from Holland, Marit #44

  23. Gosh, you're doing so many things! Do you think you can finish it all just in the time people are sleeping, without them seeing?
Those felt holly leaves are really sweet. I like the huge berry actually.
Thanks for visiting earlier. Feel free to borrow the quote. The author is Baltasar Gracian. I've not been able to find it in English so I translated it myself. Please check the spelling of the word ' creek' as that might be a little river....
I'm going to be as relaxed as Rosie about Christmas. I've lived in the UK for many years and I know what a hoo-ha the run up to Christmas is. To be honest, I'm not missing it at all.
Have a lovely week and God bless you.

  24. I'm sitting down for while for the first time today having just got home from my day with the twinnie munchkins.....so what better to do than catch up with as many blogs as I can? :-)
You seem to have so many wonderful projects on the go at once....think I'd get confused and knit the wrong pattern :-)

  25. Wow, fall off once, find somewhere else to sleep...!!
You are a busy bee, everybody is going to weonder how on earth you managed all this secret stitching. I think the third holly leaf will work, but at a less acute angle. On the other hand, it's a third less to do.....!

  26. I love the fact that you are making all these secret Santa pressies and have to hide them when the recipients are around. They are all going to love them I'm sure. Your holly brooches are gorgeous.

  30. I love how you are doing different projects like that- mine are all dependent on what time of day it is :-) Just not enough hours for me. I am stressing a bit - couldn't go to sleep last night. Still awake a 5 this morning - ridiculous. Thanks for visiting. Anne x #34

  32. I am kind of grinning that you have to hide all your preset work :) I very rarely have that problem everyone I know is so spread out the older we get. those are going to be such nice things for all of them. ( ps I dont think that button is too large for the holly either) ~Stacy #63

  33. Lol Chris - loved this post! So funny! First of all Rosie, bless her... kitties never learn do they! Ha ha! Also, your present juggling - hastily putting things away when people come so they don't see them, and then getting things out when certain people are out... Life must be extremely complicated in your house at the moment lol! Just remember who is allowed to see what or you'll get totally confused and everyone's surprises will be spoilt!!

Thanks for your lovely encouraging comment on my blog. I don't let my illness get me down, and when I'm not well enough to actually do anything, I am on the computer getting ideas and learning new techniques etc. Except for last Sun. when I couldn't keep my eyes open all day and couldn't even stay awake to watch TV. Better today, anyhow.

    Happy WOYWW,

  46. Hi Chris,

Wow - so many projects in the works. I don't think the berry is too big for the felt brooch - it's perfect! Your friends will be tickled, I'm sure. Your knitting is beautiful. I imagine everyone will love their gifts. Your mum's hat and mittens sound perfect for those cold, damp days.

Thank you for visiting me earlier. I'm slowly making my way around to desks. It will be an all weekend affair!

  48. Oh yes, it is tricky making gifts for folks who won't go away long enough for you to work on their projects, lol.

Rosie is darling, she looks a lot like our Oliver who isn't well and has taken to sleeping in all kinds of strange places. ;-)

Thanks for your visit to my blog and for the nice comments. Sorry I'm late visiting this week.

    Happy belated Woyww,
