WOYWW Minions

I finally finished Dave the minion for DD2's pressie

The pattern came from here and I made him more festive by turning his cap into a Santa hat. The pattern was straightforward to follow, but working with as few as 6 sts over 4 needles took some doing, and not a few expletives (cough cough!)

I then decided to go the whole hog, and make her a minion card, too. I'm sorry, I can't remember where I got this idea - I think it was a WOYWW post last week and, if it was, please remind me, and I'll gladly give credit where it's due.

On Monday I did a second workshop for my prayer group ladies. We had a great time, and this time they learned how to make book page trees. Here's Pam's

It doesn't show clearly, but they just sprinkled a little glitter on the outside folds, which worked well.

Anyway, having wasted spent so much time on DD's card, I really need to finish the others today and get them in the post - or, I suppose I could always save them for next year!!

Hope you all have a fab WOYWW (click button on my side bar for details) and I'll meet you over at Julia's, over the next few days, for a virtual cuppa.

Hugs and blessings, Chris xx

  10. Hi Chris,
The book tree is great! It reminds me that we used to make a Christmas tree from old newspapers, back in the dark ages, but I can't remember how!
Thanks for your kind words. They are much appreciated.

  11. I just love your minions. So adorable and I'll bet they will be well received. Sort of related (very marginally) is that DH and I watched a movie the other night. It was indian, mostly subtitled, with little bursts of English in it. But the credits were all in English and I spotted in the cast list OFFICE PEONS (two names) which made me think of minions too. There was also a "walkie talkie wrangler" listed, whatever THAT is. I had to laugh.

    anyway, Happy happy WOYWW!

  13. Six stitches over four needles?? Good grief, you are a Wonder Woman...I'd have thrown it away in disgust by that point. However, the effort was worth it cos Dave is extremely cute!!
I've just read your comment over at Annie C....we must be sisters cos socks are the first thing that get kicked off as soon as I get home! I love being barefoot :-). And don't get me started on tights.......clothes from hell!!

  19. What a darling gift, I think the Minions are cute, and they are all over around here.
I remember making those book trees years ago. We used old Readers Digests for them. I don't think you can even find Readers Digests anymore. I still love the look of them, and found an old out-dated book I've put aside to make one with.

Thanks for coming by for a visit this week, glad you like the card.

  21. Ooh I want a minion. They are sooo cute! We made those book trees at school with the students last year and used small christmas catalogues. Quite a lot of folding but worth it in the end.
    Happy christmas

  27. Aw Chris, the minion is so cute..I didn't know they have names! Love the additional Santa hat, the alarming thing about four needles is beyond me....I just know it would be a patience problem for me!!

  28. Hi Chris,

What a little cutie pie! The hat came out great. The whole double pointed needle thing scares me. If I can I'll knit in the round. I think that's why I am afraid of knitting socks. The card came out adorable also!!!

    Happy WOYWW

  32. Thanks for your lovely return visit, Chris. Yes, this year has been quite a trial with our various health issues, and quite frankly I can't wait to get Christmas over and done with. Mum seems to have recovered more or less completely from her TIAs but we've had an uncertain few days, not knowing whether she'd be able to come home again, but she's back with us now. It's all been a great strain and I'm exhausted.

  40. What a labour of love, he is gorgeous. I think 6 stitches on 4 needles excuse a few expletives. Hope he is loved.

  41. I sympathize with you having so few stitches on dpns! That would have sucked! But you persevered and your daughter will be thrilled! LOVE the book paper tree, it's soooooo pretty and if you enlarge the photo you can see the glitter. I know I'm getting a couple of skeins of sock yarn for Christmas, but apart form that I'm going to see how long I can go "cold sheep" next year as I really have quite a bit if yarn accumulated, like you do!! If I do buy new next year it has to be seriously discounted or I have to buy it only for a swap or a gift! We'll see how long that lasts!! have a wonderful Christmas.
